Industry

Beneficial Micro Organisms, other than contributing to the production of good wine and cheese, are also invaluable help in industries.

EM•1® has a wide range of applications in the industrial area.  These applications range from making use of final residues that comes from industrialization to effluent treatments.  The use of EM technology™ is simple and totally adaptable to existing conditions. In continuation, we will tell you more about how to use EM•1® and the benefits that this technology can provide.

Treatment of Solid Organic Residues

The organic residues that come from industrial transformation, inclusively restaurants and company gardens can be transformed into fertile, fermented, organic fertilizers (called “Bokashi”) over a short period of 2 to 3 weeks.

Mode of use and considerations
•    Generally 18 L of water is sufficient to spray 1m3 of material to be composted.  Dilute 1 L of Activated EM•1® in 18 L of water.
•    If the particles of the residues are very big, it has to be cut into smaller pieces to accelerate the composting process.
•    If possible, add lime or gypsum at a proportion of 10 Kg/ 1 m3 to help with the retention of nitrogen.
•    Manure from cow, sheep, poultry or swine can be added as well. However, it must not surpass 40% of the total residue mix.
•    Meanwhile the material is mixed; spray the solution of Activated-EM•1® over all the material so that it comes in contact with all the particles. Do only one application.
•    Spray only one time.
•    Form beds 1.5 m in height by 3 m in width in order to facilitate the management of the material.
•    For a better fermentation, maintain a humidity of 40% (40% of the humidity is optimum when the material is pressed in the palm of the hands and there is no dripping of liquid between the fingers). If possible, cover the material with a plastic canvas.
•    Control the temperature and avoid that it exceeds 60 °C. If the temperature surpasses this limit, mix the material again in order to lower the temperature.
•    In 2 to 3 weeks, the fertilizer will be ready for use.

Benefits

•    Accelerates the process of fermentation of the organic residues between 2 to 3 weeks.
•    Increases the availability of nutrients that are present in the organic residues, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus.
•    Enriches the material with beneficial microorganisms.
•    The process is odorless and there are no presence of insects
•    Optimizes the physical space necessary for the elaboration of organic fertilizers and consequently decreases the use of machinery and reduces the cost of infrastructure for making use of residues.
•    There are no more cost for transport and final disposition of the residues.

Effluent Treatment and Brakish Water

One of the best tools for natural treatment of effluents and brakish water is EM•1®.  The use of EM•1® avoids the need for construction of expensive infrastructure and high maintenance treatments for effluents.  At the same time, EM•1® decreases the stress on workers and reestablishes a good relationship within the vicinity.  This is true because they will not have to inhale harmful gases that may affect health and there will be reduction of bad odor.

Before indicating the doses and mode of use, it is important to highlight some factors:
•    EM•1® is not compatible with protozoans.
•    In effluents with BOD greater than 2,000 mg/L consult with our specialized technical assistance.
•    EM•1® is not compatible with chemical reagents principally oxygen reducers y surfactants, neither with chemical solutions with chlorine, crioline and silver sulphate.
•    The use of these chemical substances should be suspended at least 1 month before the initial treatment with EM•1®.

Mode of Use and Considerations

The treatment of effluents with EM•1® should be done in 2 phases; Shock Treatment and Maintenance.

1.    Shock Treatment
•    For systems with BOD between 1000 and 2000 mg/L, use a dose of 1 L of Activated-EM•1® for each 500 L of the total volume of the lagoons or treatment tanks.
•    For systems with BOD under 1000 mg/L, use a doses of 1 L of Activated-EM•1® for each 1000 L of the total volume of the lagoons or treatment tanks.

For lagoons and sedimentation tanks, aerated or not, do the following scheme of applications:

•    First month: 3 weekly applications at recommended doses in accordance with the BOD of the system.
•    If at the end of the treatment there are no significant results, repeat the doses for one more month.

2.    Maintenance of the System
•    Maintenance of the system applying 1 L /week of Activated-EM•1®  for each 1000 L of effluent has to be done ( this is based on the daily load of the system).
•    After 6 months of maintenance, quarterly applications of the same doses must be applied.
•    Maintenance will always be necessary also when there are daily discharges in the lagoons or treatment tanks.

Benefits

•    Efficiently reduces bad odors in the system.
•    Rapidly consumes the organic material and consequently reduces the BOD and COD.
•    Efficiently reduces the concentration of coliformes.
•    Efficiently reduces harmful gases like ammonia, hydrogen sulphides and methane.
•    Avoids the need for construction of expensive, high maintenance systems for the treatment of effluents.
•    Significantly reduces the mud sedimented.
•    Reduces the need for chemical products.
•    Significantly reduces the operational cost of the system.

Treatment of grease traps and septic tanks

A simple and cheap way of doing a treatment for grease recollection boxes and septic tanks is with EM technology™.  The microorganisms in EM™ are capable of accelerating the process of decomposition of grease and oils.  It effectively cleans the recollectors, the tubes and basins avoiding the periodical cleaning of the same.  EM™ inclusively helps to eliminate bad odors of the grease traps and septic tanks.  It reduces the presence of insects and rodents as well.

Mode of use and considerations

•    1 L of Activated-EM•1® for each 50 L capacity recollector or septic tanks.
•    Before doing the first application, it is recommended to clean and remove the excess grease that are deposited on the lateral sides of the grease traps.
•    In the first month, do 4 applications distributing it uniformly in the tanks.
•    Later, maintenance of the tanks and grease traps can be done through the kitchen sinks. Apply 1 L /1000 L used during the course of the week.  Maintenance can be done at the beginning of the first month as well.

General Cleaning

EM•1® can be used for general cleaning of installations (floors, walls, glass, bathrooms, etc.).  It can help to suppress bad odors and/or reduce cost, mainly with the use of chemical products.

Mode of use and considerations

In general cleaning, EM•1® can be used in 3 ways:

1.    Direct application in bathrooms, urinals, bowls, etc.
•    Doses of Activated-EM•1®: 100 ml/ toilet bowl, urinal, and etc.  Apply daily during the first three months then, one time per month only after the first three months.
•    Form of application: After routine cleaning, apply directly into the toilet bowls, urinals, and etc.
•    If necessary, add natural deodorizing essences.  In this case, the essence must be added to Activated-EM•1® BEFORE use.

2.    Spray over surface area
•    Doses of Activated-EM•1: prepare a solution of 1 L of Activated-EM•1®  in 19 L of clean water with NO Chlorine.  Add natural deodorizing essence. This is the same as adding 5% Activated-EM•1® in solution and deodorizing essence.
•    Yield/Output: 20 L of solution for 300 m2 of surface area
•    Frequency of Application: Daily
•    Form of Application: After routine cleaning, spray the prepared solution on all the surface areas of the bathrooms, walls, floors, murals and tables including toilet bowls, urinals, garbage cans, etc.

3.    Application in water and general cleaning
•    Doses of Activated-EM•1 : 1 L Activated-EM•1®  / 50 L of clean water with NO chlorine
•    Frequency of Application: Daily
•    Form of Application: Dilute Activated-EM•1®  at the doses indicated in the water to be used for cleaning.
